We are all coffee lovers here, but even though we live for the one thing that gives us a little pep in our step or a much-needed energy boost, there are a few facts about coffee that we are certain you didn’t know. So why don’t we take a deep dive into some interesting facts and expand our knowledge on the global phenomenon that is coffee.
DID YOU KNOW there are two main types of coffee?
Arabica and Robusta coffee beans are the two main and most popular types of coffee. Arabica is coffee that comes from the beans of the Coffea Arabica plant and is the most broadly consumed coffee in the world making up 60% of the world's coffee production. Growers more often than not will plant the Arabica species. Robusta Coffee is coffee made from the beans of the Coffea canephora plant and is famously bitter. It is used mostly in instant coffee and espresso.
DID YOU KNOW that Brazil grows the most coffee globally?
For the last 150 years, Brazil has been the number one supplier of all things coffee (thank you, Brazil!) Unfortunately, over the past year, La Niña has threatened the growing crops during its most critical stage of the growing process. Coffee growing regions in Brazil are also expecting at least a 20% drop across all their production rates. We think it’s safe to say that La Niña has had its time, rain rain go away!
